Truth is Outside the Box

by Monique Gallagher on September 1, 2009

You’ve probably heard the term, ‘think outside the box.’

You may think you know what this expression means and may be surprised when you read the definition.

Wikipedia describes thinking outside of the box like this: ‘to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. It also means to think in a novel, creative or smart way and to eliminate false constraints when attempting to solve a problem’.

The last part of the definition is what I have found for my clients is a key to success in their life and business – ‘to eliminate false constraints when attempting to solve a problem.’

In your case, the false constraints may be the harmless lies you tell yourself to keep you in your comfort zone. These lies keep you from being creative, taking chances and really living a full and joyful life.

What are the lies you tell yourself that keep you satisfied with your results and may be holding you back from becoming the business owner you are destined to be.   One of the biggest ones is denial or ‘sugar coating the truth.’

Denial and “sugar coating reality” is used by people who are resigned to keeping things the same and living in a comfort zone. They complain about business, their life, their health but when you suggest ways to improve their situation, they balk that they don’t have the time, money or skills to make changes.

You are not this person because if you were, you wouldn’t keep reading this article. You would walk away and pretend you never saw it – you would avoid the truth. Instead, you are putting your foot down and saying “enough” and may be asking yourself, “How do I get into massive action, because I know if I stay where I am, things will be the same next month as they are this month?”  Success minded people call it as they see it.

It all begins with us.  For us to make a difference in the lives of others it all starts with us being a leader of our lives. This means we not only have to be honest with others, but we must start by being honest with ourselves.

Here are some tips to get you started:

Success Tip #1: We must pay attention to what is and isn’t working in our business and life and be honest. We can’t change what we don’t acknowledge. In other words: we must TELL THE TRUTH to ourselves.

Success Tip #2: We must feel disturbed and uncomfortable – we must not feel safe in our comfort zone. You will not make changes if you’re happy where you are. We grow and change when we feel the need to grow, change and take risks.

Success Tip #3: We must embrace the truth and our discomfort to unleash our passion to make the change. We need this passion to inspire us to follow our dreams and break free of our self-limiting box we build around ourselves. Once we break free of the box, we unleash our passion for living so we can take the necessary risks to become fully self-expressed.

If you want to know how to ‘break free of the box’, so you can harness your power for success, you’ll want my “Tell the Truth” Action Guide. me at: Monique@Highest-Potential.com and I will send it to you.
